Field Trips



Fourth graders at Rio have been on three different field trips this year.  We went to the Satwiwa Cultural Center in the Santa Monica Mountains, Fort Tejon for the Living History Program, and yesterday, to The Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center.

Ranger Bryson

Today we had a fantastic presentation from Ranger Bryson from the Channel Islands National Park.  He taught us about the natural environment of the islands and how the Native Americans living on those islands - like Karana from Island of the Blue Dolphins - used the natural resources of the islands to survive.

Writing as a Process



We had a fantastic visit with the author Paula Yoo today.  Our fourth graders asked lots of great questions after her presentation.  Mrs. Yoo emphasized how writing is a long process, involving research and preparation before writing, and lots of hard work in revision.  But writing can also be a lot of fun, and it is great feeling when you get a book published.
