Often, simple ideas repeated can create complex and beautiful patterns.  Recognizing and being able to describe patterns is an important fourth grade skill.

What to Do with Remainders

When you figure out a problem, sometimes you end up with a remainder - but what do you do with it?  Above are some ideas.

Division with Remainders

Sometimes when you divide, the divisor does not go evenly into the dividend, and you end up with a left over part called a "remainder."

Spelling Patterns

Have you ever noticed that some combinations of letters are very common in English, while others are very uncommon?  For example, you can find lots of word that end with the letters "ck" - clock, rack, trick, etc.  Can you think of any words that start with "ck?"  Not so easy, huh?  Fourth graders are learning to recognize various spelling patterns.

Rain, rain, go away!

Bad news, folks.  Our field trip to King Gillette Ranch scheduled for this coming Friday has been canceled due to rain being forecast for that day.  The good news is we should be able to reschedule.  We'll let you know what the new date is as soon as we can.

On the Raft

In our novel The Cay, Phillip, Timothy and Stew Cat are adrift on a raft.  And Phillip goes blind!
