9-11

Yesterday was the fifteenth anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks on our country.  In memory of the brave people who lost their lives that day, Rio Vista fourth graders are making a 9-11 Memorial Quilt.  Each students will draw one square of the quilt.  We will then put all the squares together.

 Today's homework:
     1.  Read for half an hour.
     2.  Math p. 65-66
     3.  Why is it important for us to remember 9-11?

  1. Mr. Spaulding,

Please accept a belated thank you for teaching your students about this dark chapter in our great country. It takes great strength and sensitivity to teach children, but to teach them about something as difficult as 911 takes a special touch. It appears the students in 2016 understood the lesson quite well. The quilt is very touching and I hope the children hold this lesson always in their hearts. It looks as though their drawings were transferred to cloth squares for more permanency. If so, I'm glad to see that.

I sincerely hope you teach the class every year, even making a paper quilt every year to display in the school for while with the children taking their squares home afterwards. If you teach in a public school, thank you for allowing the children the freedom to write our God's name on their work;if in a private school, thank you for encouraging The Name in your class.

May God bless and keep you, your family and your students safe and strong.

    Lisa Lannom
